Koenigsegg KeyWe’re talking about the spectacular car key for a Koenigsegg Agera R, the sports super car that turns heads anywhere it goes. Rob Ferretti of the popular Super Speeders show revealed the Koenigsegg key during the 2015 NY Auto Show. And according to Rob, this key had an accompanying security detail, which makes a lot of sense considering its value. This car key however, isn’t the standard key for this Koenigsegg model but one that has been customized for particular owners. The king of car keys comes in a tiny satchel which houses all its gloriousness. It’s big. It’s costly. It’s… perfect for this car. Koenigseggs are among the fastest machines available on the market, so why not just celebrate them with a key that’s worth this much.

So what is the big deal with the Koenigsegg key fob? For starters, it is circled with an astounding 40 carats of sparkling diamonds with the rest of the key fob being made of black onyx and platinum, both very costly materials. The actual key is made from silver and appears much like a badge that you can hang with a chain around your neck. Crafted by Optimal Innovative Solutions, the very same company that makes the Rolls Royce diamond hood ornaments, this key is actually just a custom, one off piece rather than a production item. Optimal Innovative Solutions are the folks who covered the Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy in precious stones.

This key looks much more like a jewelry piece than a remote control that’s intended to unlock the Koenigsegg! It’s something only a superstar would carry. The shape of the shield fob mimics the Swedish automaker’s logo with its margins being diamond-adorned. The key can be opened to reveal a USB stick for storage of music and other vital data. On the back of this key are the car control commands for lock, unlock, light and start engine options. This key fob also sports a tiny rubber button at the back to allow the owners to trigger the alarm.

Koenigsegg Key1This key is not available yet as a standard option with Ageras, but you should not be surprised in case you see it part of the customization options list in other Koenigsegg super cars if there is enough demand for it. For now, it is just as expensive as the Agera R is price wise. There is no official confirmed price, but it is estimated at around 250,000 USD which makes it probably the most expensive automotive key ever made. This is a one of a kind right now, but Koenigsegg is surely going to make a whole bunch of others in due time.

In case you are going to buy a super car, you may as well get it a key that is just as impressive as the super car itself. A $250K car key does not sound so expensive when it gives access to a $2.8-million super car, right? This however, is not the first time we have come across a very expensive car accessory. You might be familiar with the Breitling’s timepiece accompanying the Bentley Bentayga, whose price tag is nearly as much as this Bentley itself!
